Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Santacruz.
Maya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
From an early start, I always knew that I wanted to be my own boss. Since then and a variety of jobs later, I knew it was a matter of time before I created my own platform or business and ideas of how to launch myself. I am a big believer in timing, hard work, and courage of seizing the opportunity when it presents itself. Also, with having a new business, I am constantly coming up with new ideas and having it difficult to stay put. I truly believe with right amount of dedication, research and practice you can achieve whatever you set yourself to do. I launch my business in April of 2016: a time when I was confident enough in myself and my work to give it a try. And so far this chapter in my life has been very positive and rewarding.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think starting a business is never easy. You have so much to lose, but there is also so much to gain. Simply you just never know if it’s going to work or not. However, I think I have been very fortunate because it only took in a couple of months to fill out my schedule. But I also have to thank technology for that, like social media and companies like Groupon. They are really helping out small businesses get discover.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Fabulash Beauty story. Tell us more about the business.
Fabulash Beauty is a small business located in a beautiful cozy suite at Salons by Jc in Lakeview East. We mainly specialize in eyelash extensions and facial waxing. I think one of the things that sets me apart from other businesses is that I like to build a friendship with me clients. I really enjoy listening to what they want and hope to accomplish from their service. Also, I like to give them a background of the service provided; really educate them on the process and what to expect. At the end of the day, what is most important for me is that my clients feel comfortable.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Basically, my definition of success is to feel accomplished. It is fulfilling your potential and reaching your goals. It’s really cliche, but it is living your dreams and making your dreams into reality. However, as a business owner, I am far from a complete success story. I still have so many other goals that I would like to accomplish before I can say I am a successful business owner.
