Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Peebles.
Matt, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My whole life I have been a top sales consultant. As early as 6 years old, I was known by my family to the have the ability to provide solutions that generated real results. On trips to the local toy store, I would explain to my favorite uncle reasons why it would be to his advantage to purchase several other supplemental action figure toys along with my lone G.I. Joe he was already purchasing for me. I didn’t know I was bundling at the time, but we both, by the end of the toy store excursion, walked out happier than when we arrived, and more empowered by the mutual purchasing partnership. I don’t ‘sell’ anything. Instead, the key to my success is having a strong focus on developing client centered solutions that ‘sell’ themselves. Fast forward a few decades, and I am still passionate for partnering with clients. Not only do I consult with clients on their health insurance options, but I now share my passion in my sales training and development.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Someone once told me that life is one series of unpleasant tasks after another. In my 20’s as I began journeying the earth, and finding my place in it, I could see very well why someone may feel this way. People wind up in daily routines that they know full well they don’t enjoy and yet they take no steps to get out of the cycle. A man goes to work every day at a job he hates with a boss who makes him miserable and earns a wage that doesn’t afford him more than a meager existence. What’s the point? I knew very quickly on that a cycle of looking at life as a cycle of unpleasant tasks was not for me. I made it my mission to do whatever was necessary in order to live my BEST LIFE possible. Rather than allow society to dictate my happiness, I decided that I would go and create my own happiness. That’s how I got started down the path of entrepreneurship. As I began figuring out what fuels my passion, the common thread was the opportunity to help people and to do so ethically.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Enrollment Specialists story. Tell us more about the business.
My business is twofold. First, the company was founded as a consulting firm for small business owners seeking answers on their health insurance. As opposed to a call center, or some other negative connotations consumers attach to a broker, I take a much more holistic approach to assessing my client’s needs for health insurance. Out of the hundreds of clients I’ve served, very few of them have the same set of life circumstances with many variations though their health insurance portfolio. I strive to be a trusted advisor who assess the client’s needs in depth and provide them with the best possible solution to protect their family’s financial wellbeing in a time of major unforeseen health events. Secondly, as a result of my expertise in the areas of qualifying clients’ needs and developing client relationships, over time the business has grown into the area of sales consulting for businesses looking to improve the efficiency of their sales team. Whether it’s a group of two individuals, or a team of fifty, my unique customer-centric approach to building client relationships provides an unprecedented boost to any company looking to energize their sales force regardless of industry. I pride myself on truly listening to and identifying with my clients. While that may sound simple it’s so frequently overlooked by many in the sales and consulting world. I’ve built my practice on leveraging those missed opportunities by other consultants to my advantage and building meaningful client relationships.
Do you feel like our city is a good place for businesses like yours? If someone was just starting out, would you recommend them starting out here? If not, what can our city do to improve?
Chicago is the best city in the world. It’s laid out logically on a grid system, we put our trash in the alley rather than the sidewalk (ahem, New York), and when the summer months come the whole city comes alive with the energy of its denizens. I can remember growing up outside the city and seeing images on TV of life in the city and just knowing that is where I needed to be. The life, the energy, the opportunities – there’s nothing like it. People can complain about the cold and the long winters, but I view the seasons just like our journey through life. You need to work your way through the tough times and on the other side there’s something really special waiting for you.
