Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Hermestroff.
Matt, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My father started the business when he was 18 years old with one manual screen printing press in a 1,000 sq. ft. store front. Ultimate Screen Printing has been a big part of our family over the years, and we’ve had many family members contribute to the success of our company. 40 years later, we now have multiple manual presses, and several automatic screen printing presses that allow us to print up to 1,500 shirts per hour. We have an amazing team that allows us to achieve our goals, and keep an eye on the future. The future is bright!
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. The screen printing industry is very competitive industry from pricing perspective, but we’ve always survived on providing the best quality. You see many screen printing shops come and go because it is not hard to get into the business. However, it is very difficult to be profitable and maintain reasonable margins. We’ve operated for over 36 years sole on word of mouth. Within the last 4 years we’ve added an amazing sales team that has allowed for substantial growth. Growth sounds good, but is not easy, and we continually have to refine our processes, add new equipment, and add new personnel.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ultimate Screen Printing – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in custom screen printed apparel. A majority of what we print on are t-shirts. I am definitely most proud of our print quality. The great thing about our company is that we have the personality of a small business, and the professionalism of a large corporation.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We are based in Mundelein, which is not only home for our business, but home for many of our staff. We love participating in the success of this community, and giving back to our fellow community members.
Pricing:
- Pricing depends on the follow factors: style of garment, the quantity of garments, and the total number of print colors per print location i.e. 2 color print on the front & 3 color print on the back.
- We have a minimum order of 12 pieces. Pricing starts at $8.75 per shirt for a 1-color front print on a basic cotton t-shirt. That same order for 300 shirts would cost $4.75 each.
