Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Thuermer.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mary. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been interested in health and a more holistic approach to healing. In 2009, I decided to go back to school to study Oriental medicine and received my Master’s degree in August of 2012. Just as I was about to start my practice I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to put off starting my practice until I went through treatment. 2013 was a tough year, but in November of that year I finally opened Beautiful Life Acupuncture in downtown Evanston and now have the opportunity to help people and do what I love. Having gone through cancer has also given me a unique experience that helps me as I work with others who are also battling cancer as well as many other health issues.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a private practice and business with little business experience has definitely been challenging…it doesn’t happen overnight. There has been a lot of trial and error, but my practice has been growing slowly and steadily.
Beautiful Life Acupuncture – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am an acupuncturist with my own private practice. I specialize in treating pain of all kinds, but also with patients going through cancer. Since I have been through it myself, patients are more comfortable and appreciative since I know what they are going through and what had helped me through it. I provide them with emotional support and understanding as well as acupuncture and nutritional counseling.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I don’t know if there is “one” proudest moment. Every time someone walks out of my office pain free I’m very proud…and grateful for the chance to help someone and to do what I love.
