Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Hernandez.
Mary, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my career in makeup and eyebrow shaping over 9 years ago. I started by doing makeup on my friends and family as well as shaping their eyebrows. Once I got more confident, I began taking clients. I went to London eyes makeup school to get certified. Later I moved to New York where I went to Christine Valmy School for nails and waxing. I moved back to Chicago a little over 3 years ago. I worked a full-time job taking clients on the side to build up my Chicago clientele. After 1 year of taking clients from home I opened up my very own salon. It wasn’t easy but it was well worth it!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In opening a business there will always be bumps in the road, I had a few with the construction/ remodeling that took longer than expected and finding a team of employees to work with. But thankfully it all worked out and I work with an awesome team now!!!

At Sleek Beauty we are known for amazing hair, eyebrows, makeup and nails. One location where you can get many services in a relaxing environment. We specialize in wedding services and prom as well.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe that treating clients like family is important building long time relationships. I also believing that keeping up with modern trends and technics in the beauty field is key.
