Meet Marrwho Hasati of The Earth Center in South Chicago

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marrwho Hasati.

Marrwho, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in Seattle, WA. Towards the end of my high-school experience, my perspective on life broaden and I began having more interest in indigenous cultures and their ways of living. My mother’s Ancestry is coming from Africa, so I became more and more interested in precolonial African culture. Around this time, I had a good friend of mine that was introducing me to cultural knowledge, but in particular traditional African culture. This friend finally came across the teachings of the founder of the Earth Center, Naba Lamoussa Morodenibig, a high priest and healer from Burkina Faso, and he began studying his teachings. My friend moved to Chicago in order to study under Master Naba. After around a year of my friend’s education (initiation) within the Earth Center, he told me about what he was learning and at that point I knew that it was something that I wanted to experience for myself. I move from Seattle to Chicago in 2005 and I became a student (initiate) of the Earth Center. Since that time I have continued to progress within my personal initiation and over the years I have taken on more responsibility within the organization and now I oversee the Chicago branch of the Earth Center. Along with overseeing the Chicago Earth Center, I continue to travel back to Africa in order to continue my studies and education into traditional African culture, philosophy and spirituality.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The path I have chosen has been filled with great challenges that I have had to overcome. Perhaps the biggest challenge has been the paradigm shift from the Western mindset. Western culture is in many ways completely opposite to traditional African culture. The reason why I had sought out traditional African culture was to not only reconnect myself with my Ancestry, but also because I knew that in the West, the mainstream culture and lifestyle is heavily influenced by entertainment, materialism and consumerism. I indulged in this way of life up until I graduated from high-school, but after that things started to slowly change. I knew that there was more to life than what the mainstream American culture was offering, and I also was aware that this approach towards life is what was/is heavily damaging our environments and planet as a whole. So once coming to the Earth Center, though I knew that I wanted to change my ways of thinking and living, the Western paradigm was deeply embedded within me (and still is). So the process of reconditioning my approach to life by applying the principles and knowledge coming from my initiation and my experiences in Africa has been the biggest challenge, but a challenge that I am very grateful for.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Earth Center – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Earth Center is a multi-faceted not-for-profit corporation comprised of three branches:

The first branch is the M’TAM School of Kemetic Philosophy and Spirituality. The M’TAM School offers an authentic education (initiation) that was brought to the Western world by High Priest and founder of the Earth Center, Naba Lamoussa Morodenibig. The knowledge that Master Naba received from his Masters during his initiation within the deep bush of Africa has been passed from Master to disciple for generation after generation and can be traced all the way back to the Nile Valley (Ancient Egyptian) civilization. Master Naba came to the US and reconfigured the knowledge he received in his initiation in a way where the modern man and woman of the Western paradigm can grasp it. The depth of the knowledge provided in the M’TAM School is profound as it sets the basis for one’s approach towards life by providing principles that are coming from a way of life that has survived the test of time.

The second branch is Ankhkasta Natural Healing. When people talk about natural healing, often times people look to the Eastern cultures, but many people don’t know about the power and knowledge of healing coming from the continent of Africa. Ankhkasta is an organization that was founded by Master Naba. He created a network of healers that are now able to provide their knowledge of healing to the outside world. Ankhkasta aims to reintroduce humanity to traditional forms of healing by providing alternatives to the modern world’s approach to health. Ankhkasta provides health consultations, healing herbs and Earth energy readings by priests located in West Africa.

The third branch is Firefly Productions. Firefly Productions strives to educate people worldwide about traditional culture, spirituality and philosophy through various media publications (books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, posters) which embrace the teachings of traditional African culture as well as the Earth Center’s founder, Naba Lamoussa Morodenibig and his students.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The Earth Center is steadily expanding. Since its establishment in 1995 by the founder Naba Lamoussa Morodenibig, we have expanded to 3 continents (Africa, North America, and Europe). Daily we have people calling our center expressing interest in opening schools in their locations, and these people are calling from all over the world. So with this expansion, we will work to maintain ourselves as a resource for any human being that is interested in reconnecting themselves to a philosophy and way of life that guides the human being to be a preserver of life and a preserver of our planet.
