Mark, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in the family business. Went off to college and came back home to join the company. Over the last 38 years have held practically every position including “Retiree” having sold the business in 2005. I failed that job and bought the company back realizing my only hobby was work.
Has it been a smooth road?
As suppliers to the residential construction industry, there have been countless challenges throughout my career. Fortunately, we knew to re-engineer the business to adjust to the economy and competitive landscape. When Homecenters became the rage, we joined in and opened 10 throughout the Chicago area. When Home Depot came in, we realized it was time for us to bow out. We retooled the company focusing on the burgeoning new construction market. We opened truss, millwork and cabinetry facilities catering to the builder,

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Everyone is painfully aware of the political dysfunction in Illinois. It has stifled employment growth which impairs housing demand. While most of the country has rebounded from the housing recession, starts in the Chicago market stand at 7,000 per year, well of their peak of over 30,000.
