Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Carter.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started DJing at the age of 9 with the support of my parents who gifted me my first mixer, speakers, and other equipment that would help me. I started off providing entertainment for family parties and non-profit organizations in Chicago. I was really trying to get my start and I had an abundance of support that helped me thrive. Fast forward to my freshman year of high school at De La Salle Institute; word got around that I was a DJ and I was asked by one of my former teachers Dan Dowling if I wanted to DJ the freshman dance for the incoming class and of course I was shocked with disbelief that someone who believed in me so much would instantly give me an opportunity. That event opened up the door for other events and I realized that I wanted to pursue this full time. Fast forward to my senior year of High school while applying for schools to attend I created my business name, mission and what I wanted to focus on and officially opened my company at the age of 17.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a very smooth road. I had experienced some struggles along the way with people putting me down or gigs weren’t being booked but I always remain optimistic and know a brighter day will come and I can now say business has been great.

The main thing that sets me apart from others is my humble beginning. I look at every opportunity as another way to push my passion to those around me. Being only 22 and 10 years doing what I love shows at all my events.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Being asked to DJ Lollapolloza 2015 with some of my industry connections in a duo called Light Em Up. Standing on that stage was one of the most remarkable experience I’ve ever had.
