Today we’d like to introduce you to Marci Myers.
Marci, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my framing business in 1986 when I was in college. My parents owned a needlework store and wanted to add a framing department. I participated in seminars and taught myself the art of framing, later opening a framing department within their store. It was a perfect fit for me because I have an art degree and I enjoy expressing design through framing. Along with spending time with family and traveling, framing is one of my biggest passions in life. I have been in the framing business for over 30 years, and I recently rebranded my business last year as MM Frame Co.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Actually it’s been a pretty smooth road. The biggest struggle has been to get my name out to the public. I don’t have a storefront, so I have to use other avenues like advertising in local magazines, exhibiting at Ladies Nights event, couponing and gift certificates. While that has helped a little, my best results have come from word-of-mouth referrals and organic searches for framing in my area.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the MM Frame Co. story. Tell us more about the business.
As a picture framer, my business is about taking what’s special to my customers and making a wonderful memory, keepsake or piece of art even more special. I’m very proud to have my own business and to make a small difference in people’s lives. That’s what keeps me going even when the business gets hectic.
I believe that what sets me apart from others is that I offer such personalized attention to each job. I’m willing to go to my clients’ homes and help them with their decisions, right in the environment where the work will be displayed.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I feel that good luck definitely played a part in starting MM Frame Co. If my parents didn’t look to open a framing department within their store, I never would have found my passion for framing.
Finding this passion has led me to start my own framing business. Without luck, along with drive and passion, my life, from a career perspective would have turned out to be very different.
