Today we’d like to introduce you to Magdalena Hadzhieva.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Here in Facial Studio Magdalena we specialize in the treatment and management of acne and problem skin. I founded my studio in 2010 and it’s been a great success since then.
In 2006 I was utilizing my business degree as a broker in a freight firm. My job was very stressful and non- rewarding and I needed a creative outlet. I started a self-search, trying to find out what I liked to do and what classes I could take on the side in order to fill the gap. In my early twenties I developed acne and it stayed with me for years and years. It was a very frustrating experience and nothing I tried helped.
So based on those factors, I decided to go to Esthetics school part time. I had no intentions of working in the field, just wanted to learn how to clear up my skin and to feed my hunger for more knowledge. When I graduated I continued working in transportation, but were doing facials only for friends and referrals from home. I was happy to see their skin improve, and felt good knowing I have helped them. Finally it got to the point where there were so many people who wanted to do my acne program that I had to hire employees.
Currently we have four people working at the studio and we are able to help more and more acne sufferers.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, I have been very blessed ever since the beginning. I think part of it has to do with the fact that I am so passionate about my work, that even when I get some struggles I see them more as challenges and dive head on to resolve them. I would say the hardest time was the first year of opening my business, but I am pretty sure that’s typical for any business out there.
Please tell us about Facial Studio Magdalena.
We specialize in the management of acne with non-prescription topical products and professional skin treatments in our office.
Facial Studio Magdalena has its own product line #SKIN that is formulated to target the needs of our clientele. Our products are strong enough to actually produce effect and have no ingredients that will make acne worse like a lot of OTC cosmetics.
I think acne is a very common and frustrating skin problem and it is not being given enough attention in the esthetics field. I have structured a skin care program based on the Dr. James Fulton modality, that has proven to be very effective and our clients clear up significantly within a few months.
We do not offer any miracle fixes here. It is a program that consist of getting facials with us monthly and using a home care regimen that is customized for each individual client based on their skin type and life style. We monitor the progress during their visits in office and adjust their regimen as needed. We educate our clients on their skin, dietary changes that may help and lifestyle choices that they should avoid. It is hard work, but so worth it in the end.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up in a small town in the mountains of Bulgaria. Very picturesque. One of my favorite memories is having picnics with my family by the lake and playing with my siblings and all of my cousins, while our parents were fishing and grilling delicious food for us. Good times!
