So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Sal my husband came to the U.S. seeking the American dream of becoming a family man and opening his own business. In 1990, we started doing business literally in the closet under the stairs of our apartment. Sal set up a bench in the closet and did repairs for local jewelry stores while working for a well-known jeweler in Chicago. I was put on polishing duty and polished jewelry in the kitchen. A year later, we opened our first brick and mortar store on 83rd and Pulaski in Chicago. A couple years later, in 1993 we moved to Ford City Mall and are still there! We recently moved out of Chicago Ridge Mall after 17 years to a free-standing building where we are currently in Oak Lawn. It definitely has been a roller coaster ride but we enjoy it.
Has it been a smooth road?
With any business you have your ups and downs, especially with the real estate bust. Look jewelry is a luxury item and not a necessity and we realize that so we had to adjust to stay open. We focused on jewelry repair and buying back gold and diamonds from people in need. We pride ourselves on GREAT customer service. Because of that we believe that is the reason why we still have customers/friends from 83rd and Pulaski!

We are a fine jewelry store that specialize in custom design and have a full well-equipped jewelry repair shop. We are known for doing excellent work while you wait. We compete with the big names in the mall but we need to be better because we are family owned. So, what does that mean? We can make the same ring you see somewhere else for a much better price and better-quality diamonds or gemstones. Quality Product, Quality Service, Quality Selection is what separates us from the rest.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Chicagoland area is very diverse and that is what makes it a great area to open this type of business or any business. As long as the company has a good business model they can succeed here.
