Meet Luz Cavazos of Juicyluzy Sangria in Oak Lawn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luz Cavazos.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We started making our sangria for family & friends and from there our business started to grow. People then began to ask if we could make it for their parties and word started to spread.

After making sangria for many years with the encouragement from our family& friends, we decided to look into opening up our own sangria company with lots of trial & error it took us 4 1/2 years to get our business up and running.

With the help of city of Chicago, an organization called Score, Loyola university business school, Accion, Sam Adams, Governors State university, village of Oak Lawn and of course, my family & friends we were able to open our business in December of 2016.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, it has been difficult. Some of the struggles we came across were applying for all of our licenses and making sure the applications were filled out correctly if not they were rejected and had to re submit them and wait some more.

Another one of our struggles was applying for a business loan no banks want to give out money to someone starting a business.

Finding the right insurance & bond company.

Another one was finding the right architect, contractor to do the work for the right price. Thank God, we were able to find wonderful people to help us in this area.

Juicyluzy Sangria – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Juicyluzy Sangria is a handcrafted sangria made one batch at a time with a blend of wines, juices & other yummy ingredients. We do not mass produce it, we make it the same way I made years back.

We offer four different flavors of sangria we have Ruby Red which is our traditional sangria then we also have Mango, Pear & Pomegranate.

One of the things that I am most proud of our company is that I was able to open my business with the encouragement of my family & friends and of course the help of God not coming from a business background, am proud that we were able to do this.

What sets us apart from other sangria is first it’s made with lots of love. That we are a local business, that we make our sangria one batch at a time and we are able to provide four different flavors.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success with being able to finish what you started.
