Meet Lucy Slivinski in West Side Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Slivinski.

Lucy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always knew I would be an artist! I was very fortunate that my parents encouraged me and have continued to support me in my work. My education first at Northern Illinois University and then at Cranbrook Academy of Art was focused on Fiber Ar, which developed into a love for process and materials. Through many years of hard work, experimentation, and discovery I emerged with my own voice.
One project has always led to another and I have collaborated with many incredible artists and designers that have pushed my work forward: artist, composer, percussionist Kahil El’Zabar has been a true collaborator and mentor and Interior designer Michael Del Piero helped introduce my lighting.
I dream BIG and I look forward to my next adventure!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My life is a constant adventure and I am so fortunate to lead the life of an artist! My journey is ever unfolding! What is so satisfying is that my work continues to grow and expand and as it does so do my opportunities to collaborate with others, to travel to new places and to always discover new possibilities.
In my artistic practice, I pursue an exploration in reshaping ordinary objects into extraordinary expressions of creativity. This journey has been somewhat instinctive in my artistic evolution. My parents taught me to believe deeply in the higher values of humanity and my aspirations are to find ways to reshape and re-shift assumed waste, into rekindled adventures of beauty.

I want to show people how to bring heart and love to this enormous problem of dislocation and waste and to experience the value of recycled reincarnation.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lucy Slivinski – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a sculptor, installation artist, and lighting designer. I create large-scale public sculptures, throughout the world, as well as, exhibit my work in galleries, museums and at special events. I just recently installed a large-scale Public Sculpture, commissioned by the City of Chicago, in Uptown at the intersection of Broadway, Montrose, and Sheridan, entitled “The Phoenix Rising!”.

I also work with interior designers and art consultants where I create one of a kind sculptural lights that I customize for each client’s interior. In 2012, I was voted “Best Lighting Designer”, in Chicago by CS Interiors Magazine. My lighting is represented by Lightology. www.lightology.com

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am very excited to have been invited by EXPO CHICAGO to be an artist in residence. where I will be providing the lighting installation for their public lounge during EXPO CHICAGO, September 27-30. I will be unveiling a new series of sculptural lights that will also be for sale.
