Meet Lily Born of Imagiroo in River West

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Born.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was 7 years old, I noticed my grandfather was having trouble handling his cups and often spilling. This caused him a lot of embarrassment. I thought that if a cup had legs to lean off of it would be less likely to tip or spill. I made a sketch which led to some simple prototypes and then when I was 9, my dad asked me if I wanted to take the cups into production, I said sure, why not, we’ve gone on to sell tens of thousands of the cups all over the world.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road, after we first launched the product, we spent an entire year trying to get production going in the US and it was a complete flop, after a year we had to give up that effort. The release of the plastic cups was also another struggle, they were delayed by over a year.

Imagiroo – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We have a unique approach to no spill cups in that we don’t require a lid.

Something, I’m really proud of is the number of people, especially kids, that have told me my story inspired them to try something, to believe they could make a difference.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
If our customers are happy and like our products, that’s success to us.
