Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurie Roberts.
Laurie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started the business out of my house with one drapery artisan working out of her house. Over the first six months, I went to every event at the Merchandise Mart to introduce myself to the Interior Design Community. Slowly we started to gain a small group of Designers that were trying us out and then it was time to expand and find an actual studio space, which we did up on Ravenswood Ave. This allowed us to continue to grow the business and hire additional artisans. Over the next 8 years we had a steady business that kept growing slightly each year and we eventually outgrew our space. Three and a half years ago we moved to a 6,200 sq. ft. studio and doubled our business to what it has grown into today…
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There definitely have been challenges and obstacles along the way. One of the main challenges starting out was finding the right artisans, installers, vendors, etc… Making sure you hire/partner with people who have the same work ethic, drive and determination as you is key. When you have one “bad” attitude, it can change the whole work environment and overall feel of the company. Fortunately, we have worked this out and currently have the best team. As an owner, everyone follows your lead, stay positive and encourage change, debate and growth. Your team will then provide the BEST service and quality to your Client.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Primo Interiors Inc. story. Tell us more about the business.
Primo Interiors is a custom drapery workroom servicing the Interior Design Community. We are known for our quality hand fabricated window treatments, customer service and problem solving.
I am so proud of the TEAM that we have become. From the pride everyone takes in creating each piece from start to finish to the satisfied client that hired us. For me, what I believe sets us apart from others is our attention to detail, customer service support and that we truly partner with all of our Designers to achieve the best possible outcome for the client.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Good question…Bad luck happens to all of us throughout our lives, but not letting it take you down is the key. A lot of people think because you have a successful business that your life is easy and you’re lucky. I do feel lucky to have the business and life that I have today, but hard work, pain, tears and laughter has brought me here….luck is a side note….
