Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Knuepfer Rozum.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my professional career working for Food For Thought, one of the premier catering companies in Chicago. I started LK Events in the summer of 2009, after four years of planning weddings, corporate events, galas and fundraisers for Food for Thought. I loved working in catering and formed wonderful relationships with the top vendors in this city. Consequently, the transition to start my own company was pretty seamless. We had a very successful first year at LK Events and I attribute that to these relationships as well as my experience working in this industry.
We are now a company of six full time consultants (Nicole, Jennifer, Allison, Bridget and Lara), celebrating our eighth year in business and I couldn’t be prouder of my team! We are a boutique wedding and event planning company dedicated to our clients and their events. We offer the highest quality service and the time needed to ensure a perfect event.
We are grateful for the incredible event professionals we get to work with daily and if it weren’t for them, we would not be where we are today! We love this city and love what we do!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Yes! If it weren’t for my team I would not have been able to start a family (and grow a family…a little quicker than I had planned…) and still run a business. If you would have told me in 2009 that I would have my own company, with five successful full time planners, and three kids in 2017, I would have never believed you! I am truly grateful for the support of my LK family and colleagues in this industry. It can be difficult balancing personal life and work life and I wouldn’t be able to do it without my team.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize in full wedding and event planning; guiding our couples throughout the planning process, educating them and of course, having fun along the way. We have a combined 30 years of experience in this industry and that is truly what sets us apart. All six of us have worked in the hospitality industry for at least five years prior to joining LK Events. It was imperative that I find a team that understands this industry and has established relationships within the community. Many of our past couples are still very close to us, as we got to know them on a personal level by establishing a friendship throughout the process. These friendships are the reason we do what we do and I am so proud of our commitment to our clients but also, to our industry friends who help us produce flawless events.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a southwest suburb of Chicago, called Hinsdale. I grew up in a large family and I am very close with my three siblings. I enjoyed singing, musicals and running. I loved to talk. I really never stopped talking 🙂
I knew from a very young age I wanted to plan parties…I LOVED entertaining and being around people. I started working in the hospitality industry at the age of 15. I worked in restaurants throughout high school and college but fell in love with off premise catering during my undergraduate years at the University of Illinois. These experiences, gave me the tools I needed to begin my career in Chicago.
I love spending time with my children (son Jack and twin girls, Lucy and Ellie) and my husband, Bryan, I love to travel (when I can!) and to try new restaurants with friends and family.
