Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura McGrew and Catherine Rondenet. Cate and Laura are seasoned Jungian Analysts who served on the C. G. Jung Center Board at its inception and are now serving as Board Member Emeriti. Both still actively support the Center’s mission and have volunteered their expertise as supervisors, presenters and clinicians.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When the Chicago C. G. Jung Institute moved from Evanston to Chicago, it focused on the training of analysts and professional education. The C. G. Jung Center in Evanston continued with the mission of making programs available to the general public that would bring Jung’s work more broadly into the world.
Our goal was to focus on public programs and a long-term low fee clinic based on the psychology of C. G. Jung. This mission has been successful in that our public programs have grown to draw in many topics that directly or indirectly relate to the psychology of Jung. All presenters and therapists support these goals by volunteering their time. Their generosity is what makes the Center viable.
In the past 5 years, we also started yearly clinical seminars which primarily appeal to clinicians who wish to incorporate some of Jung’s psychology into their practices. These talks are presented by seasoned analysts.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The universal obstacle of any not-for-profit is one we share. We are challenged financially. The paid staff is composed of two very hard working, part-time employees. The presenters and therapists who share their talents without any stipends or fees are the heart of The Center.
The Clinic has a structure of low fees for clients and we also accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about C. G. Jung Center – what should we know?
Community building is an outcome of our existence. Programming includes Friday night movies which offer an opportunity for stimulating discussion for those who attend. There are also Quarterly Professional Networking Meet and Greet Friday morning events that add to community building.
What also sets us apart is being the only Jungian-based long-term sliding scale, low fee Clinic in the Midwest.

Getting in touch: VoyageChicago is built on recommendations from the community; it’s how we uncover hidden gems, so if you know someone who deserves recognition please let us know here.
