Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Macauley Thoel.
Laura started her career in commercials working at Epoch Films where she became the staff bidder and production manager after only six months of working the reception desk. After moving to Los Angeles, she began freelance producing, cutting her teeth with some of the biggest commercial productions of that time, before joining JGF as their Head of Production at the tender age of 26. In 2004, Laura returned to line producing and freelancing bidding for such companies as Biscuit, HSI, and Anonymous Content.
For over eight years, Laura was an Executive Producer for Smuggler in Hollywood, CA.
During her stint, Smuggler twice won the Palmes D’or at Cannes for campaigns she was involved with.
In 2013, The Sweet Shop US office named Laura as Managing Director. Her quick wit, savvy style and creative instincts complement and strengthen The Sweet Shop’s global management team. She has judged many times at AICP and at The London International Awards.
Has it been a smooth road?
Is there any such thing as a smooth road? I entered this business by accident because I needed a job after being fired from a PR firm. Starting as the receptionist at a NY production company, I found that working hard and being passionate afforded many opportunities and advancements very quickly: I produced my first commercial (a Benetton ad) at 20 years old.
The biggest struggle is in learning how to mix one’s personal life with a hectic work and travel schedule, as in this business, we’re always on the move.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The SweetShop – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a live-action production company. We specialize in creating and shooting all content, from :30 second commercials to social media content to music videos and to longer format branded short films. We are most proud of the extreme lengths we will go to support our young talent, funding and helping their own personal projects and short films, as well as building their showreels. What sets us apart? We are an award-winning global production network with fully-staffed offices, spanning five continents.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The locations and crew are amazing, Hardworking and talented! Don’t like the winters very much but I don’t know anyone who does!
