Thanks for sharing your story with us Laura. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was a teacher and tutor for 10 years until I had my three boys. Once they were not babies anymore, I wanted to do something that allowed me to be my own boss and give back to the community. I purchased a local franchise of College Nannies Sitters and Tutors. I started with one territory 10 years ago and now own 4. My skills of teaching, tutoring, and being a mom, all came together to successfully grow my business. We are able to help build stronger families in the Chicago Area by providing them with professional childcare and tutor support.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would not say that it has been a smooth road. Being a business owner, there are awesome days and not go great days. Many of our nannies and sitters are young adult college students or recent grads and although they make great role models for the children of our families, they are challenging to work with at times. There are ups and downs daily, but the ups outweigh the downs. We have grown into a 1M+ business.
College Nannies Sitters and Tutors – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
College Nannie Sitters and Tutors provides nannies, sitters, and tutors for local families. We use college students, recent grads, and those with college experience- a level of education- as role models for families. Our professional childcare service allows families and moms in particular to get stress free childcare. We provide FT and PT long-term nannies, short-term and short notice childcare, and educational tutoring. We do all the leg work and provide qualified candidates to the family as well as perform background screen on the ones hired.
What sets us apart from other agencies is that we legally hire all the nannies, sitters, and tutors. We bill the families for the hours and do payroll for the nannies, sitters, and tutors- with direct deposit, insurance, and taxes. We are a full-service agency.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Overall, the year we surpassed 1M in revenue was the best, but on a day to day basis, I am most proud of being able to save the day with a sitter when a family is in need.
