Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Morgan.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kimberly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started working in the tattoo industry in 2007. I started out doing body piercings, and after my apprenticeship was completed I soon began learning how to tattoo. Since then, I’ve worked in several different shops and learned as much as I could from everyone I met. I also got my esthetics license several years later, which put me on the path to pick up the skill of cosmetic tattooing.
My esthetics teacher motivated me to finally pull the trigger on finding training for cosmetic tattooing, which had been something I had somewhat considered for a few years. At the time, there were not many options for training so I did a ton of research which led me to a school in Florida. The school came highly recommended, however, unfortunately, I left class feeling disappointed. I had more questions afterwards than I did before attending.
When I returned, my luck changed when I met one of the most influential people in my career, Erin Golightly. She generously shared her wealth of knowledge with me and I credit her for everything I know today. Little did I know at that point we would go on to become great friends and business partners.
Our mission behind Advanced Permanent Cosmetic Academy is to provide the most comprehensive fundamental microblading education available. Both of us knew first hand how disappointing it feels to leave a training class feeling like you wasted your time and money, and we vowed to do everything we could to give our students an education that will allow them to confidently begin practicing their new skill.
Has it been a smooth road?
When I first expressed the desire to learn cosmetic tattooing, many people were not initially supportive. The tattoo shop I worked at had no interest whatsoever in incorporating this service, so I knew that I was going to have to make this work on my own. Luckily, shortly after I started offering this new technique, microblading went through an incredible boom in popularity and my life changed completely.
When we opened our academy, we knew we had to do it right because along with this boom came many many quickie schools that offered certificates to their students after a weekend in a hotel conference room spent working on fake skin. We take our art very seriously and we also take great pride in our students and how skilled they grow to become. When it comes to our clients trusting us to permanently tattoo their faces, it is nothing that we suggest taking lightly.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The Chicago area is a good place to start out as a new microblader because of the opportunity that this city offers. As one of the largest cities in this country, there is already a booming tattoo community and a thriving beauty industry that births newly successful business owners every day. There will surely be many incredible networking opportunities within your own area.
