Meet Kimberly Kallmann of Kallmann Counseling and Consulting, PC in Northwest Evanston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Kallmann.

Kimberly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up I always knew that I wanted to help people but wasn’t sure in what capacity. It wasn’t until 2003 when I was working in the prison system helping adolescents, who struggled with an addiction that I knew addiction would be my specialty. At this point, I had already received my Bachelors in Social Work from Bradley University and continued on to Lewis University to receive my Master’s in Counseling Psychology. It was at this point that I felt in order to help patients I need to further my education and get my certification in addictions.

After starting a private practice in 2009 I started to realize that the patients that were presenting in my office not only struggled with drugs or alcohol but were also struggling with sex and love addiction and codependency issues. At that point, I decided to become a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. I have been working in the addictions field for 14 years. I started Kallmann Counseling and Consulting in 2011 with the vision of helping those that struggle with any kind of addiction and mental illness.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning your own business is never a smooth road, I have learned a lot since opening in 2011 and have been able to expand my practice with another therapist. One of the biggest struggles in the field of addiction, especially sex addiction are those who don’t believe that addiction really exists. We all know that with the internet and smartphones we can look for anything and have it at our fingertips in seconds, which has increased addictions. Although things have changed since I received my certification is sex addition therapy in it’s still a daily challenge. Another struggle has been getting that name of the practice known within the community. With a lot of hard work, we have become established and known within the community of Evanston and addiction.

Kallmann Counseling and Consulting, PC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Kallmann Counseling and Consulting specializes in working with the addiction and their families. We provide individual, couples and family counseling. There are two major things that set us apart from other companies. The first things is that we specialize in working with adolescents and their families. The second things, that makes us different than most companies that work with addicts is that we accept most medical plans. I feel that the cost of counseling should not deter people from getting the help that they need. I’m most proud of the success rates that we have in helping people with addiction. I’m also, working on expanding the practice in the next year with a new location in the northwest suburbs.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment in my career so far is having a thriving private with one employee by the age of 40. I always knew that I wanted to work in private practice but never dreamt that would happen in my thirties.
