Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Rapach.
Kim, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Regardless of our age or life experience, there is a tremendous amount of power in our story. Once we give ourselves permission to embrace our story, that power can unleash a sense of peace and hope that may never have been felt before. The results are a greater sense of purpose, an ability to cope with the stresses of everyday life, setting healthy boundaries and enjoying relationships. Having done a lot of emotional work of my own, including therapy and paying off all of my consumer debt (and a lot of steps in between), I’ve had a strong desire to help others achieve peace on their own journey.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I started as a small private practice with a tiny office that didn’t even have a window. I cried for the first six months trying to navigate the administrative side (aka: insurance) of owning a business, but the work I was able to do with clients was always worth the other parts of my role. I didn’t pay myself for the first year and a half, and grew my practice slowly and patiently (with the help of my very patient husband). This year I celebrated five years, with a new three suite office and three amazing clinicians whom I consider family.
Bending Birch Counseling – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our services include individual, family and couples counseling, art therapy, grief counseling and financial coaching for people of all ages and walks of life.
We provide a safe and sometimes even fun environment where folks can be seen, heard and supported in the work they want to do.
What I’m most proud of about our work, is how well we connect and take care of one another as a team. We take great care of ourselves and each other so that we can take the best possible care of our clients.
We are each “in it”, meaning we are committed to our own journeys, which helps us lead others well on theirs.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We enjoy helping, teaching and empowering people to find the best versions of themselves, regardless of what life has thrown at them. In sum, success is making the world a better place while living within healthy values.
