Meet Kim Belle of Allstar Custom Awards in Naperville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Belle.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kim. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Allstar Custom Awards was started in 1990 as Allstar Publishing by my late husband Rick Belle. He sold advertising space on wrestling brackets he custom printed for local middle and high schools for free. He eventually changed the name and not only expanded the type of awards, such as plaques and medals, but also the type of sports. I took over and have continued the business since 2013.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There was a steep learning curve for me due to my nursing background. During the most difficult time of my life I took on a business that although familiar to me, was not known. It was only through time and persistence, along with great outside support that I developed the skill sets, passion and confidence that was needed and expected.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Allstar Custom Awards – what should we know?
We run a small family business out of our home in Naperville. We specialize in custom bracket boards and sports awards for schools across the country. We also print banners and design gifts for churches and charities.

We are known for our quick turnaround time, reasonable prices and hand assembled awards using images drawn exclusively for Allstar.

I am most proud of our work with the NCAA. We have printed the DIV I, II, and III wrestling brackets on site for the last 20 years, traveling around the country to do so.

I love that I am a female who has found her niche in a male dominated industry. The mom who creates items for kids that reflect their accomplishments. Keepsakes that will be kept and cherished for years. That is my passion…what sets me apart.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am honest, hardworking, and passionate. And apparently not modest. I am grateful for the opportunity not only to continually grow and learn the business but keep it relevant and fun. It was a labor of love started by my husband that I am honored to have been able to continue.

I owe credit to the wide customer base of long term customers, many of them in the wrestling community. They supported me and my family both financially and emotionally during a difficult transition. I am also truly grateful for Suzanne Wills my friend, neighbor, and web designer, who for a year stood by patiently and walked me through the specifics of computers and graphic design.

I also need to thank my daughters Brittany and Kelsey who as teenagers put their own lives on hold, worked around their emotions and stepped in to help with the day to day production and continued business success they grew up knowing. Amazing qualities for two amazing young ladies.
