Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyonda Pyles.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’m a mom, wife, and blogger. A couple years ago I started sharing my daily life on social media and I would get lots of questions in my inbox about what we’re doing for The Weekend how to get good priced tickets to events, etc. I was shocked people cared about my opinion, but I entertained the idea and started an online blog. My blog started off as a way to share my journey of motherhood and capture some of the fun and not so fun things my family did. It took off about a year or so into it and I started getting contacted by brands to review their items or attend their event.
I realized that I actually had a “brand” and started to get serious with content creation and my social media presence. I’m still growing and learning but I can honestly say I love being a blogger.
Please tell us about your art.
As a content creator I do lots of different things. I don’t only work for my brand, but for a few other brands as well. I do social media management, business consulting, and of course blogging.
My goal as a Mommy Lifestyle blogger is to showcase being “A Real Urban Mom”. I’m from the West Side and I’m raising two brown boys and married to a black man. My home isn’t always spotless, we aren’t vegan, and every now and then I want a strong cocktail. I wanted to share my stories with others that could relate to me. Also introduce some people to a unfiltered look at being a 30 something woman that’s married with children.
One thing that I always try to get across is balance. And I try to show that on my blog and social media how I try to balance: my husband, our children, my business, my relationship with God, my family, friends, and self-care! It’s not impossible but it takes time to realize all your roles and when you have to pull back and tend to yourself. You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself. Sow and water your dreams and goals while still being an amazing wife, mom, and all the other titles you carry. I’m not saying it will be easy but it will be worth it.
Lastly It’s so important for woman to be able to relate and see that things aren’t perfect. It’s okay to see something and be inspired by it but make it your own with the gifts God gave you.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
I’m all about my coins. I worked in Corporate America before, but I hated the limits I had. As a mother my biggest concern is making sure my children are okay. I want to take and pick up my babies from school. As an work from home entrepreneur I have a lot of freedom and that is more than gold to me. As far as making money being a blogger can lead to a nice pay out. But it’s tricky because sometimes you have better months than others so it’s good to have other side hustles as well. My husband also caters and djs so if I’m not working on my brand or one of my clients brands I’m working on his. Because being a entrepreneur is hard and it’s not guaranteed money.
