Today we’d like to introduce you to Keon Dillon.
Keon is a Chicago-based Spiritual Wellness Coach and Tarot Practitioner. He grew up in rural Mississippi, where he cultivated most of his knowledge and experience related to his spiritual practices. A number of spiritual/religious philosophies inform his work such as Christianity, Hermetic Kabbalah, Mississippi and New Orleans Hoodoo, and Buddhism. He is from a lineage of intuitives and learned to appreciate his dreams and premonitions from his grandmother.
He is the founder of Millennial Soul Food, a web platform and personal brand that he created to facilitate healing, as his mission’s work is to help usher humanity into a higher vibratory state of consciousness. In his consultations, he helps clients identify emotional and spiritual blocks that inhibit personal growth. As noted in the mission statement on his website, “when you work on yourself, you aren’t just healing YOU. You’re healing generations – dismantling ways of thinking and acting that inhibit personal growth (self- doubt, self-hate, addiction, abusive tendencies) many of these are learned socio-culturally over generations.”
Has it been a smooth road?
I think that one of the primary struggles was coming to terms with the fact that my gifts/services are valuable to my community/humanity and that I DESERVE to get paid for them.
Also, I went through a lot of hardship in 2016 (financial, emotional, spiritual), which required that I take on a part-time job. I had been in two car accidents within five months, had to cover expenses for an unexpected move on top of a host of other things. 2016 was a rough year! I drove part-time for over a year before I was completely exhausted and began brainstorming other ways that I could supplement my income. To be honest, this motivated me to post a status on facebook advertising my spiritual wellness/tarot services, and I had several clients booked that day. That was seven months ago!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I provide Spiritual Wellness and Tarot Services. I think what sets me apart is both my experience and training. I have a BA in Latin American Studies and a Masters Degree in Sociology from the University of Michigan. Also, I have taken coursework in Wellness Coaching and the Philosophy of Coaching. All of this academic experience and professional training has helped me learn a lot about the culture, history, society, and the world in general.
Also, I identify as a Black Queer man, so a lot of typically socially marginalized folks come to me for services. Much of my clientele is LGBTQ, people of color, and/or women.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Chicago is a great place for businesses like mine. I, thankfully, know a lot of people who have let me use their spaces for events, etc. This has been a great way to gain publicity for my brand. I get most of my business through Instagram and word of mouth. Approximately 30% of my clientele are usually from Chicago. The rest are from all over the country.
