Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelvin Freeman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kelvin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
About 15 years ago I decided to dedicate my life and professional career to helping others achieve their fitness/wellness goals, something that I’m very passionate about.
I started out as an independent Certified Personal Trainer (CPT). I trained clients in their homes, small studios, and at large gyms throughout downtown Chicago and the south suburbs.
As my passion for fitness increased I began competing in various NPC bodybuilding shows and remain active. In June 2013, stepping out on faith I decided it was time to open a training studio.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Proverbs 3:5-6 reads “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
When I made the transition to become a trainer 15 years ago I left the comforts of a salaried position as an Accounting Manager of a tennis country club. It took several years to build my business so my family really felt the financial strain. If not for my loving wife and keeping the faith, I would have never made it to this point.
Professionally, developing my training style took several years. My personality wanted every client to achieve their fitness goals tomorrow! I went “all in” on fitness and assumed that when a client hired me they were 100% committed as well. As every trainer will tell you, this is not always the case. I would get frustrated when clients wouldn’t follow their meal plans, miss training sessions, etc. I struggled for a while trying to find the balance between encouragement, compassion, and speaking my mind regardless of the feelings that may get hurt. 15 years later I’ve developed a skill which is just simply “meeting a person where they are at”.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Keep Fit story. Tell us more about the business.
Keep Fit is a training studio that has the spaciousness and many of the bells and whistles that you would find in a full service gym. We have a professional, private, and friendly environment with a courteous and knowledgeable staff dedicated to serve and help you succeed!
Keep Fit is a studio that can help you with whatever your fitness needs are. Anyone from an athlete seeking sports specific training, someone just looking to drop a few vanity pounds, or a senior wanting to improve their health we can help. We specialize in weight loss and toning.
We take great pride in making sure that every client feels like they are part of one big fitness family. Everyone here is extremely encouraging to others.
Keep Fit is unique in the sense that it is a private training facility, but every client will tell you that Keep Fit is a gym. We have over 2,200 square feet, and a spacious cardio room. We offer various classes throughout the year such as Zumba, Boot Camp, and Group Fitness. We offer massage therapy services as well as a towel service.
Additionally, we have protein shakes made to order on site and we offer a full line of nutritional supplements.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Jeremiah 29:11 reads “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
My translation of this scripture is that every step in life and business has been ordered for us before we were even born.
