Today we’d like to introduce you to Ramsey Prince.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey in the design industry started while in college for Biology and Graphic Design. While taking classes, I fell into a job at a high-end furniture and design company and got the Interior Design bug and have been in and around that industry ever since. The journey has taken me through many different aspects of decor and space planning and eventually led me to Chicago from Maryland working on the Manufacturer’s side managing and designing for a line of home furnishings at the Merchandise Mart. There, I not only pursued my love of Interiors but applied my knowledge and eye to many events and even showcased my love of fashion and costume design. After 7 years at the Mart, I opened my own fashion and home accessory boutique in Lakeview. Most recently, I am focusing on the Special Event Industry, I have always loved floral and designing and producing large-scale events combine my years of design with an ever-changing client base always keeping me on my toes. I have joined the most successful events team in Chicago, Kehoe, and will continue to produce out of this world events in the corporate and social arenas
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many hiccups, one big life-changing moment was the decision to leave family, friends and everything I was familiar with back in Maryland and make a jump to Chicago where I knew no one.
I guess the next most difficult time was when I opened my retail boutique, leaving a successful and high paying job to go into business for my self. I learned a great deal having the store but eventually realized that I could not focus on design, production, marketing, daily store operations and finances all alone successfully and made the difficult decision to close up shop. Fortunately, I landed back in the event design industry and really blossomed and still love it to this day.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kehoe – what should we know?
Kehoe is a world-renowned events company. As an event designer, I am known in the industry for an eye for cutting-edge design that considers the entire space not just what is on the tables. I try to give my clients an experience, not just a pretty room or lovely centerpiece. Combining interesting spacial planning, exquisite floral design, impeccable linens and textiles and elegant and innovative technology and lighting design to transform every space that I treat. I feel that my experience in many different aspects of the design industry allows me to see things in a different way.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think my ability to stay calm in a sticky situation is essential to working with other creatives, and with clients since much of design is subjective and sometimes, has an emotional attachment to the client.
