Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylen Smith.
Kaylen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a freelance model here in the Chicago land area. It started here in the when I was in high school I was always the one changing hairstyles and playing my mother’s make up. From there I sparked and interest in fashion and runway. I can remember summer days watching Rupaul Drag race and America’s next top model all day long. I can say my uncle has been the biggest influence to me when it came to letting me try new things and get into something that I always wanted to do. Later into my young Teenage /adult life I was working 9 to 5 jobs and I never felt that the fully filled my desires. I started nursing at rush hospital in the winter of 2017 into the New Year, I loved my job because I am a natural healer however I believe I was born to be my own boss. Only 3 months into my job I decided to quit and pursue my dreams head on with faith in the most high. Now I have been in the biggest hair show in the country here in Chicago. I’ve had commercial and continuously active in the shows and events here in the city out. Runway is nothing to me at first it was my biggest insecurity when I first started, however I knew the runway is something I’m going to conquer. Now I am in the process of expanding my services. I’m working on my model workshop for inspiring and or current models in the city and out. I know I am capable of accomplishing so much more, but who says I’m not credible to teach the women who haven’t achieved as much. This will be a place of peace, acceptance and growth.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been an easy road. The universe literally broke me down to start myself completely over mentally and physically. Not to get into too much detail I believe I can relate to every single woman that looks up to my drive and dedication which does nothing but pushes out great content, and outstanding accomplishments. While in the same process help and share all the gems dropped in my life to them because I want to see everyone win.
Please tell us about Gap Tooth Goddess.
I’m a Fashion Model, I am known for body painting, fashion shows and commercials and that’s just to name a few. I am most proud of my growth. It is very hard to keep faith and still believe in yourself sometimes when everyone around you are stuck in their generational cycles that project their fear of struggle on to you. However you have to wake up every day and choose you, it’s going to be hard but we don’t concrete on the problem just the solution. What sets be apart from others is my drive to help others even though I may not be as credible as others models that would.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood would have to when my mom use to turn our walkway to the back to school runway it was so much fun me and my brother use to model together in our clothes that my mom would buy us.
