Meet Katya Sidelnik of InnerJasmine Yoga & Wellness Studio in Western Suburbs – Hinsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katya Sidelnik.

Katya, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Have you ever had a moment when you paused and your mind replayed everything that led you to where you are today? I have been having these moments almost daily.

A dream, a dream I never knew I had, has been slowly coming together these last nine months and I am so excited to finally open my doors!

My own journey on my mat began in September 2011, after a series of injuries that limited my physical activities. It was with patience, perseverance, and support of a wonderful community that I was able to understand the beautiful depth and power of yoga. My practice transitioned from on my mat, for the rest of my life – off my mat. It changed how I observed and interacted with myself as well as the outside world. I began to understand that ultimate balance in life – that nothing stays the same: that our ability to surrender into the ever-changing complexities of life creates equanimity – a balance in the midst of worldly fluctuations. My goal for InnerJasmine is to help others find their equanimity.

Has it been a smooth road?
As in life, the road to opening my doors has not been smooth. At times, I felt I was learning 10 new languages all within the same day. There were permit delays, communication challenges, scheduling conflicts and personal bumps along the way. Even though there were times I had to take a step back to re-evaluate a situation or work to approach it from a different angle, there wasn’t one moment I questioned my decision to take a leap of faith. Years ago, I made a promise to myself that I would not allow fear to limit my opportunity to live life to its fullest. So, every day, I make a choice and I chose to live. I chose to take chances and I chose to have faith.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
As a boutique, studio InnerJasmine will specialize in smaller, longer group classes as well as Teacher Training and Mentoring programs. There will be weekly group classes for those looking to build their yogic community.

There will be daily opportunities for one-on-one private sessions for those looking to start their yoga practice or challenge their current practice or learn something new. Yearly, yoga-alliance certified teacher training will be available for those ready to learn the complexities of yogic philosophy and teachings. Ongoing mentoring and continuing education programs will also be available for those already teaching and looking to expand their knowledge. There is something for everyone.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Chicago is a great place for yoga businesses. Specifically, I believe that Hinsdale is the perfect location for me. It allows the city, north suburban and south suburban access. As well as it provides me the opportunity to bring a more boutique-like yoga experience out of the city.

I think the most important thing when someone is just starting out or thinking about opening any kind of yoga studio is that they evaluate their brand and their community reach. Different people, teaching different styles will impact different communities in different ways. So, being honest about their way as well as their reach will determine their location rather than the other way around.
