Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathleen Basista.
Kathleen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My background is in clothing and textiles and merchandising. After working in management for corporate America for 20 years, I took a buyout opportunity. That was 10 years ago. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do exactly but I was looking for a bra that fit and was having trouble finding something that fit correctly and was attractive. The more I chatted with other women, the more I heard the same thing from them. It didn’t matter how large or small busted these ladies were. I looked for some place to train for proper fitting and really couldn’t find anywhere local. I signed up for a class at the Fashion College in London but when I got there, the class had been cancelled. So I went to Rigby and Peller in London for a fitting because they were supposed to do the training. I figured that I could get an idea about their fitting process. The bra fitter there was training someone and took the time to answer my questions.
When I got back home, I found SOL lingerie in Denver fit the same way. I spoke with them to arrange for training with them. I found a lovely little house in a charming historic downtown as opposed to a mall because I wanted my clients to feel at home and comfortable. Most of the time I am a one person shop bringing in help when I do events a couple times a year. I believe that every woman deserves to have beautiful lingerie that fits properly and customer service.
Has it been a smooth road?
Anything worth having is worth working for. For the most part I have been blessed with wonderful clientele and word of mouth has been my best advertising. Of course, during the recession, things were tough. Changing what I ordered and the volume helped get me through. Learning that I can’t be everything to everyone was a hard lesson to learn as well. My nature is to want to help, so learning to keep my focus on what the majority of my customers want instead of trying to order merchandise that I normally wouldn’t carry or wouldn’t be able to sell for just 1 item was a challenge for me

I am a small boutique that specializes in bra fitting and beautiful lingerie.
I carry bras, panties, shape-wear, nightwear, pjs, swimwear, bridal lingerie and accessories in a large range of sizes including plus size. I am known for my customer service and one on one attention. I go the extra mile to make sure that my clients have a special and comfortable experience here.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Chicago offers fabulous restaurants and shows, beautiful parks and historic landmarks. I also love the lakefront and holiday windows. There is always something to do. My least favorite thing…….the winter weather of course!
