Today we’d like to introduce you to Kasey Foster.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kasey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I studied theatre and dance in college, moved to Chicago and met the world of physical theatre, a most excellent combo. Clowning, puppetry, spectacle… Working regularly in experimental and physical theatre, in combination with singing with various local bands, has brought about a lovely stewpot of music/theatre/dance production over the years.
Most importantly, I have met so many incredibly talented people in this city, and the majority of my productions are attempts at bringing these people back together for a night of the performance. I’m really bad with goodbyes and have thus found ways to get workaholics in the room together again. Cast them!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Interesting question. I guess you could say it’s been a “smooth road”, but sooooooooo much longer than I would have guessed. When I first moved to Chicago, I remember thinking, “okay, now I’ll do Chicago for 5 years, then onto the next.” I still don’t even know what I meant by “do Chicago”, so the road is still paving in that regard.
Nonetheless, it has been a great time, smooth and rough, and I’ve learned patience in my pursuit. A valuable and humbling lesson, that I still struggle with. Maybe we call it FOMO these days?
Please tell us about Kasey Foster.
What do I do? Jeez. It changes every year I think. According to my various bios floating around, I’m a producer, actor, singer, choreographer, and director. What is my favorite thing to do? I suppose what all of these things have in common, and to get to your next question of what I specialize in, is that I bring people together. Most of my productions are inspired by concepts that involve a cast of a quadrillion performers.
Lucky me, this is how I can get all my friends in a room together, which is also what I’m most proud of. As a performer, I specialize in acting well enough that Kasey disappears, and singing well enough to 1) not make anyone cringe, 2) inspire, at the very least, mild head bobbing, and 3) a performance that demands more from an audience member than hearing someone sing in the background.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Daaaang. These are tough! I don’t have a great memory, so I’m going to say every night at the dinner table with my family. Mom, Dad, and 3 goofy siblings. I miss eating dinner with them every day.
