Today we’d like to introduce you to Karly Ellis.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I found my love for photography when I was 11 years old. Once I got into high school, my oldest sister bought me a professional camera. This is when I started my business, Karly Ellis Photography. I then decided to go to Columbia College Chicago to study photography.
Over this past summer, I did an internship in New York City with fashion/beauty photographer, Sarah Silver, where I found my passion for fashion and beauty photography. I am currently in my final semester at Columbia, graduating in May.
Has it been a smooth road?
My biggest struggles were my first couple of years at Columbia College Chicago. In the beginning, I knew that I loved photographing people, but I was unsure if I wanted to take the commercial or fashion photography route.
In the end, I found that my passion was for fashion photography. Other than that, I have continued to always be photographing and having fun with my work, which has made this road very enjoyable.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Karly Ellis Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in fashion and beauty photography. I think I am known for the color that I provide within my work and the positive attitude that I have on set.
I have always been drawn to color, and it is something that I will continue to pour into my work. I am proud of the work that I have created during my 4 years in college and the opportunities that it has brought to me such as scholarships and internships.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I have always been drawn to Chicago because of the architecture and the lake. There are so many beautiful places to photography and I love that there is such a variety of the different neighborhoods.
What I least like about Chicago is that there are not as many fashion photography opportunities. I wish that Chicago would be able to bring more fashion to the city.
