Meet Karlin Sloan of Sloan Group International in West Town

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karlin Sloan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Karlin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been immensely lucky in my career – I started my first leadership development firm catering to Silicon Valley companies during the first internet boom when I was just finishing graduate school. My first investment was hiring an executive coach, and it’s paid off. Twenty years later I’m thrilled to be running a global consultancy that makes a positive difference in organizations – from helping to groom successors for key positions to building capabilities and skills at the leadership level… It’s been gratifying and a constant learning experience!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the most challenging and rewarding things we’ve done is expanding globally. It’s been incredible to learn about and adapt to multiple cultures. It’s also made me very sensitive to the experience of leaders in a global context, which has made our work that much better.

Please tell us about Sloan Group International.
We exist because we care about Inspiring Leadership. Corporate decision makers make an enormous impact on the world – and we want that impact to be positive. We care about good business, which to us means contributing to the world in a positive way, enhancing the lives of employees, customers, and community members, and making a positive difference through what we have to offer.

We are best known for executive coaching and senior level leadership development programs in finance, healthcare, technology, and other organizations that rely on technical/ analytic experts that need to inspire and lead people. I am proud of the fact that we get consistent, measurable results for our clients and we have positive long-term relationships.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up around a lot of scientists. My dad was an academic and we always had interesting people around, particularly physicists and chemists and mathematicians. One of my first memories was sitting at the window at night with an astronomer friend of my fathers, who was showing me the stars and telling me what a tiny speck our planet is compared to this enormous universe we live in. He told me that if we can go all the way out there we can do anything!
