Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaori Asano.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always been a “people person” and have enjoyed working with the public, but once I got to college I wasn’t sure how to apply that to a career along with my science major. I ran into the profession of optometry by chance when I was having an eye exam and the optometrist asked me if I was looking for a job. I started working for him the following week and found optometry to be the perfect mesh of working with/helping people as well as applying my science background. I applied to optometry school, graduated, completed residency and got my first job at a private practice in downtown Chicago. As I worked there for 9 years, I found I wanted to have a practice of my own, and here I am!
Has it been a smooth road?
The road was definitely not smooth… There were definitely bumps along the way; everything from trying to buy into a practice at first, then that falling through. Then trying to find a location for a brand new practice and finally securing the location, and on and on… There are still bumps everyday, but I take things one day at a time and try to learn from every struggle.

Eyes on Fulton is an optometrist medical office and glasses boutique. We specialize in everything from vision correction (contacts/glasses) to diagnosing and managing eye emergencies and diseases as well as carry high-quality eyeglasses. We also have an on-site glasses laboratory and can make glasses in one business day and sometimes even the same day depending on the prescription. I pride myself on having something for everyone and every budget, young and old. I also personally help with the glasses and lens selection which I think sets us apart from other offices. Glasses are medical devices and patients deserve to have the doctor give some input on what the patient needs. There are only a handful of optometry offices in the city that are woman-owned and operated and I pride myself in that as well.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Chicago is a huge city with many areas for growth. A city like ours needs great eye care providers that can offer patients good customer service as well. I would tell anyone starting out to go ahead and take the leap and be your own boss! I would like to offer help to them if they needed advice on how to start as well.
