Today we’d like to introduce you to Judy Alders.
Judy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In October of 2008, my husband Larry and I discovered we had a passion for helping people and soon after started a local non-profit organization called NeighborLink Porter County. We had enjoyed helping needy families through our church and wanted a way to continue that process throughout the rest of the year.
NeighborLink is a web-based platform that connects needy families with volunteers who are willing to help them with basic home maintenance and repairs. Volunteers can help families with things like wheel chair ramps, painting, cleaning, transportation, vehicle repairs, yard work, HVAC and so much more through our website www.NeighborLinkPC.org. NeighborLink had a storage unit that had a few things in it that were donated to us and they were starting to get ruined. We hated to see the items go to waste, so we started to brainstorm on some ways to sell some of the items to help offset the cost of projects and the idea of the RePurpose Places was born. In 2014, we opened the Repurpose Place to help supply the necessary funding to complete the projects. The RePurpose Place is a resale shop that sells and accepts donations of new and gently used furniture, appliances and building materials. We accept gently used cabinets, sinks, doors windows, tools, flooring, wood and so much more! If a family is in need of one of the items we have in stock, we will donate it to them. We are always looking for fun volunteers to help us run the store which is open Tuesday-Friday from 10-4 and Saturday’s from 9-2.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s always challenging to find volunteers. Once they are here, we are like a family.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The RePurpose Place Of NeighborLink – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We sell new and gently used furniture, appliances and building materials.
People love to come and see the new items that we get on a daily basis.
Our volunteers or so helpful and friendly.
Our regular customers love the deals they get every week.
Every other week, we request a specific food pantry item for around $1 and our customers receive a 25% discount on any item in the store when they provide that item.
We have a different special every week.
