Today we’d like to introduce you to Jroc “Jasper” Noland.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, growing up in the Chi, I went through a lot at a young age. A lot of things that drew me into a businessman. I didn’t have much growing up because my mother had to take care of me and my two sisters. I always wanted the cool stuff in stores but sometimes didn’t get like the other kids. When she passed away, all of those so-called nice things went out the door. You can say I matured fast at age 15. I started to teach my self how to cut Hair to provide money for my self and my immediate family. Stayed consistent in it and finally started getting connected to Cut celebrities. Finally graduated from college and became brave enough to make a film about my life called #LMTMS (Letmetellmystory).
Has it been a smooth road?
Wasn’t at all a smooth road. I went through a lot of trails and tribulations of being adopted, in the streets, just going down the wrong path. Getting locked up before high school and being on house arrest. But I learned from all those mistakes thank God.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My profession is barbering at the moment. I graduated from a university that I recently received a BA in communications. I didn’t want to go the corporate route, so I continue to cut hair. While in my path, I created a film called #LMTMS (Letmetellmystory) which is airing on September 23 at the AMC. I guess from being a creative and someone that attacks more than one trade, is why people are familiar with me. I am most proud of the team I put together to create and put off this film. I’m proud of my friends from putting their emotions aside and just do work. I believe what sets me apart from the others is simply being as average as a barber to build around people so their story can be heard. Sort of like an advocate.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like it is an opportunity in the city of Chicago. Hell, we are one of the biggest cities in The United States! But I can say that the people can be a bit selfish at times because of the attitude coming out of Chicago. It’s mad people out here. If your product is good enough, you can make a killing. Chicago is a stepping stool.
