Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Hall.
Joseph, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started roofing in 1982 in Des Plaines. My friend was working for a local roofing company for $8 an hour, and that sounded good to me so I applied and was hired. I accepted the job offer, mainly because the pay was good. I quickly came to realize I really enjoyed the work I was doing. After working with the local roofing company for one year, I accepted a different job offer with a union, predominantly commercial, roofing company. I worked for the union for 5 years and then decided to strike out on my own, in 1988. In 1988, I began my own company, Advanced Roofing Technologies.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say the roads been smooth, but interesting to say the least. There have been challenges along the way, but with each challenge I gained valuable experience and learned many things, both as a roofer and a business person. Some of these struggles included learning how to estimate correctly, learning how to deal with unpleasant customers in a professional way, etc.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Advanced Roofing Technologies – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Advanced Roofing Technologies specializes in residential, commercial, and industrial roofing. We do roof removal and replacements, repairs, gutter work, soffet and fascia, and designing roof systems for unique situations. At Advanced Roofing Technologies, we like to hold ourselves to a high standard in that we will not leave a job unless it’s complete and complete the right way. We strive for honesty, and always keep in mind that customer satisfaction is our priority. We like to remember the three E’s; Evaluate, educate, estimate. Our three E’s strategy; we inspect and evaluate the needs of a client’s roof (take pictures to show), we then show the client the issue and explain to them what is going on, once the customer is educated and understands their options we then estimate based on what they feel best fits their needs.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our plans for the future include continued growth in the Chicago land area and giving more responsibility to my children in hopes that they will grow the business in the future.
