Today we’d like to introduce you to Jochen Renz.
Jochen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am an Electronics Engineer from Stuttgart, Germany (Home of Mercedes, Bosch, Porsche, etc), and now reside in Chicago, USA. During my undergraduate degree, I had the opportunity for an internship at Bosch in Broadview, IL and I fell in love with Chicago.
After a 20-year corporate IT career, I co-founded New Mobility Consulting with my brother Alexander (Alex). Simply put, cars and IT are in our blood. We understand the car as an important building block in the future of multi-modal mobility. However, much of disruptive innovation happens in the form of solutions around the car and in the broader mobility ecosystem. Alex and I go far beyond the car itself and take a holistic view of the emerging smart mobility and transportation space aka New Mobility World®.
+ Connected Vehicles – including software and hardware platforms/infotainment and related apps, connected car services, connectivity and infrastructure solutions, HMI, car interior, IoT and smart sensors, etc.
+ Autonomous Vehicles – including advanced driver assistance systems, automated and autonomous driving technologies, automated parking, etc.
+ E-Mobility – including battery technology, charging infrastructure, alternative energies, fleet management, new material science etc.
+ Urban Solutions – including smart city technologies such as Intermodal transportation planning, intelligent traffic management, smart homes, intelligent infrastructure etc.
+ Mobility Services – including vehicle sharing, ride sharing, parking services, contextual location-based services etc.
Has it been a smooth road?
When I was in graduate school I was set on working in the automotive industry, but I wasn’t hired after graduation. Serendipity struck and I started my career in IT. I experienced Mainframe to Client Server to Internet and Cloud first hand and after 20 years, I was able to apply my knowledge and experience in Digital Disruption to the Automotive Industry i.e. New Mobility World.

Absolutely. We are the New Mobility Capital of the US. We have two major airports, train rails come through Chicago based on historical reasons. Highways converge here from North to South and East to West and we have the amazing lake. This is the place to be in New Mobility.
