Meet Jim Langworthy of Jim’s Handyman Services in Elmhurst

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Langworthy.

Jim, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up learning everything you need to know about fixing, patching, painting, and plumbing, really everything from my dad. I was the guy dad would call on when he needed a helper around the house. So working with my hands was something I had always done and always enjoyed. So even when I was working as a project manager I continued to lay tile for people or paint or take on odd jobs. When the economy turned I lost my job. So with a growing family and home to support I picked up more side work. The first week I was off I was building a deck for someone and every day I came home and excitedly told my wife about the work I was going. By Friday of that week she sat me down and said – when are you going to figure out that this is what you are meant to do? She had never seen me happier and more fulfilled in my work. So after years of working in corporate America I decided to use my business degree to start the business I had been training for since I was a kid. And Jim’s Handyman Services was born.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Finding good help can be challenging but I have two wonderfully talented guys working for me now.

Jim’s Handyman Services – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Jim’s Handyman Services is a small business based in Elmhurst. I am the owner and the guy doing the dirty work. I currently have 2 very good handymen who work with me and could use more if you know someone. I cannot keep up with all the requests for work. As of now my service area is only Elmhurst but if I can get some more good help I would love to be able to expand.

We hang lights and TV’s, we paint, do electric and plumbing we do full bathroom remodels. I do a lot of cabinet refacing and putting in shelves and drywall repair. We build beautiful custom built-in entertainment centers and bookshelves.

We were rated Elmhurst Favorite Handyman and our business continues to grow. We believe that is because when you call us you will get credible, reliable help. We pride ourselves on being men of integrity both in our work and in our business dealings. What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Being a provider to my employees is what I am proudest of. They are good honest hard working guys and it makes me feel good that my business can help them to sustain their homes and families.
