Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Clement.
Jim, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ll start by saying that every job I’ve ever had has led to the next one. Whether from hard work, dumb luck, or a mix of both, I’ve had great fortune when it comes to being where I am today. If I actually sit and reflect about what it is I do on a daily basis and how I ended up where I am at this moment, I think about communicating with the people I’m around at any given time and my natural curiosity for how things and people work. I consider myself a technological interpreter/artistic director/talent recognizer, but really what I do is project manage for the web design and development company I started several years ago. I suppose what got me started was my ability to search for an answer to a problem, paired with my lack of fear for failing to solve that problem. Or perhaps just finding myself in the right place at the right time.
Has it been a smooth road?
I experience challenges every day, but they inevitably drive the next steps I take in my business. Every challenge I experience is the catalyst behind a new approach to a problem that was limiting me in some way in my business. One issue I have every day is the very thing that helped me create my business; working with people all over the world on the internet, never meeting face to face. I work with people all over the world on a daily basis which has helped me find the most talented people in the world (in my industry), but has also proved to be very difficult in terms of communication. Its exhilarating a lot of the time, finding new ways to communicate with my designers and developers for each new problem that arises in a project, but it’s also exhausting and a seemingly never-ending struggle. My “down time” at work is spent figuring out how to articulate myself in the best way possible for my designers and developers to understand what needs to be done. Whether it be a new software we can use to collaborate, a new communication approach I learn about, or simply a new internal rule I apply to increase communication, my personal goal is always to bridge the gap in communication so things can go as smoothly as possible.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Millennial Web Development – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My business is named Millennial Web Development. We design and develop websites for people and companies all over the US and the world. Over the last 5 years, we have excelled at creating easy-to-use websites for people using the WordPress platform. We specialize in creating websites with the administrator in mind. We make sure our clients can edit and add pages to their site seamlessly, needing no prior knowledge of coding.
In my mind, what has set us apart has been our unique approach to building these WordPress website backends, and the communication approach we take to our projects. A lot of developers in this industry have a bad reputation for being unreliable and flaky. My goal has always been to crush that stereotype and show each of my clients how great a relationship can be with a developer who communicates!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I grew up on the South side of Chicago in Hyde Park and I have to say my favorite part is the different types of foods this city has! I love eating in Little Italy, Greek Town, and Pilsen!
The thing I like least about this city is the gun violence and the correlated lack of opportunity I see for people of color. The lack of opportunity for people of color is actually a national problem and the constant gun violence in this city seems to be a result of that issue. Its heartbreaking to see so many people shot each year in Chicago.
