Meet Jim Campbell of Weekend Warrior Handyman Services in Elmhurst

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Campbell.

Jim, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 1999 I decided to have an addition built on my home in Elmhurst. I had always wanted to build my own home so with this addition I took on the part of finishing the work after the drywall. While working full time, I spent nights and weekends working on the completion of the interior. I received so many compliments on my work from guests at a party that we had upon completion I decided in 2004 to start my own business doing this type of work. Initially it was a handyman type business but along the way in 13 years my expertise grew and it became more of a remodeling business.

I decided on the name Weekend Warrior Handyman Services for two reasons; one because I had been working on the addition on nights and weekends and because of so many homeowners (husbands) taking on some home repair tasks that somehow never get done – the so called “Weekend Warriors”.

Over the years I have gained many clients through referral as well as repeat business from many of these clients. My business model is to be a hands on contractor where clients see me from start to finish. This has done well for me as witnessed by the many current and former clients who have given me great reviews.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with any business, there are bumps along the way from figuring out how to properly price your work, where to advertise and what parts of the remodeling and home repair business you want to go after. Most of the struggles came during the downturn in the economy where many business suffered.

Weekend Warrior Handyman Services, Inc. – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Weekend Warrior Handyman Services, Inc. handles most minor home repairs although over the past few years we have focused mainly on remodeling of kitchens, baths and basements. What I am most proud of besides my finished projects, is the trust I instill in my clients. They are letting me have access to their home and I take it very seriously to safeguard their home and possessions. From this trust, I have gained many clients as friends.

I believe what sets me apart from others is that I am a hands on contractor that is on the project from start to finish.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest achievement of my career, not moment, is the many clients I have gained as friends after completing their projects.
