So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2010, I began importing products from all over the world that could be used as unique party supplies; Things like striped candy bags from England and glass milk bottles, and melamine wares from Denmark. There were no other shops curating party supplies like that at the time, and so it became really popular with magazine editors and photos stylists because we had products that no one else carried, and they were all in one place!
We now work out of a 5,000 square foot warehouse in the south suburbs, shipping products to customers all over the world. We laugh because we’re ‘kind of a big deal’ in both Brazil and Dubai 🙂
Has it been a smooth road?
I have no formal business training (my degree from DePaul was in sociology with a focus on criminology!) so maybe I didn’t know what I was getting myself into at times, but not knowing the ‘correct’ way to do things allowed me to be creative in facing challenges. I think the most important rule of owning a small business is to stay flexible; my business is small enough that we can implement changes immediately if something isn’t working.
