Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Lawson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been photographing for 25 years. I started when I was in 9th grade. I began by shooting concert photography. I moved to Chicago to attend Columbia College. I worked for the Sun-Times for a short time before starting to shoot weddings. I have been shooting weddings for over 15 years. I do have two associate photographers that shoot for my company. They have both been with me for years.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was a bit of a transition from film to digital but, I loved seeing photography differently. I used to work in a darkroom and now I work from home on my computer. That was also a huge transition.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We primarily photograph weddings and children. We have a very unique style. I love the fun you can capture through wedding photography and I really try to focus on that. We love our slogan, ‘it’s your party. have fun.’ I feel like that really represents who we are.
What were you like growing up?
I was very, very shy. I am opposite of that now.
Not sure if this needs to be in the article but… I grew up in a very small town in Indiana… Brazil. I like to say, I am from Brazil because it sounds way more exotic. I am gay and didn’t come out until after I graduated high school. My only interest was photography. I trained myself. Once I came out, my personality changed drastically.
