Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Mendoza.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jennifer. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been in the beauty industry for 14 years now. I attended Tricoci University of beauty culture at 19 years old and after graduating I assisted for 9 months and became a hairstylist at Zea salon in Chicago. I worked at Zea for 6 years, I left Zea salon because I wasn’t seeing any growth and felt like I deserved more.
Afterwards, I freelanced and worked at 2 other salons for 3 years to explore my options and then decided that being self-employed and being my boss is what I liked most. Fast forward to today I’m a salon owner at Flourish hair and beauty in Ravenswood Manor and use Instagram to gain exposure and it has been a great tool to use to bring in business and I’m able to showcase what I do best.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not, it was not easy. I’m the type of person that likes to explore options and see the pros and cons to everything. I definitely did work for the wrong people and that definitely made me see what was right and what was wrong. There was a lot of lessons learned but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Those experiences helped me so much to grow as a person and especially helped me be humble.
Please tell us about Chicagobalayage.
I opened my Instagram account about 3 years ago under a different name and knew that I needed to change it to something else. After having all my clients tell me how they found me using a hashtag called Chicagobalayage I then decided it was a good idea to change my username to Chicagobalayage and strictly only specialize in what I love best Color!
I specialize in Balayage and I’m a color specialist, I became so busy within a year and decided it was time to Open my salon which is only appointment only because I wanted it to be exclusive.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Spending quality time with my parents, they tried their hardest to spend every single moment with us even when they were exhausted.
