Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Ewert.
Jennifer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my journey of yoga 22 years ago when my son was little to keep me sane and calm but realized that yoga was much more than that. It was a lifestyle that I dove into and eventually became a teacher. Becoming a teacher changed my life as I had to overcome being in front of people as well as communicating to others so they understood what this amazing practice was all about. I taught at health clubs, studios and businesses.
After 4 1/2 years of teaching it was clear to me that I wanted to learn more and bring yoga out to more people more seriously without anything holding me back.
Akasha was created from the help of my friends and one friend of mine found this location located in the heart of downtown. It was perfect with the exposed brick and tall ceilings. That was 12 years ago and now we have memberships, events and teacher training programs with classes 7 days a week. We teach people from 14-94. It has educated me, empowered me as well as enlightened. So now I feel the need to share peace with others by teaching the teacher training program, through my classes and helping others privately. To me yoga has been the only thing that has allowed me to spread peace on a giant scale. The world needs it so I will do my part… I wish to continue as long as I am able.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The obstacles for me have been at first trying to get in to the location as we were waiting for the city council to make sure we had enough parking space to be there. Then the other challenges I faced were employees not quite accepting my direction of where I was going in the beginning. I had to earn their trust as I was a new first time business owner.
Customers were also a challenge at times as some felt the need to tell me how to run the business and classes. Since being in business for over 12 years the community has accepted me and we are growing every year…
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Akasha Yoga Center – what should we know?
We teach people about peace through the practice of yoga with poses chanting and relaxation. The teacher training program sets us apart from others as we strive for excellence in our programs.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The quality I have according to my family is that I am a leader who is passionate about spreading peace. I feel that it is the only way to help our planet and my success is that I look around the world today and see that more and more people need peace so I must get up and share with those I know to help them find it.
