Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Kauck.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeff. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my artistic career as a watercolorist, which sparked my fascination with simulating daylight and my sense of composition. Fast forward many years, I started my photography business with my wife and Producer/Stylist, Sue, decided to specialize in food photography because food is most similar to the subjects that I loved painting and years later, here we are!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It wouldn’t be a 30+ year old business without a few challenges along the way, but all in all, it has been a wonderful ride. All challenges, like Sue and I using our “wedding funds” to buy studio lights, are now just laughs and nostalgic memories.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in communicating with consumers via my photography. What time of day are you eating? What is the highlight of your dish or the concept that you’re hoping to sell to consumers? What story do you want to tell consumers about your product, cooking, restaurant? How do you want your consumer to feel when seeing your product?
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very quiet – still am. I kept to myself – still do. I spent a lot of time in my father and uncle’s workshops. My father was a woodworker and my uncle was a master machinist for Briggs & Stratton. I make my own camera and lighting equipment, thanks to both of them.

I am suggesting you interview Chicagoland area oil painter/illustrator Eddie Corkery. I am a retired artist agent who represented Eddie for several years. When you browes his online portfolio you will quickly see why I recommend him. Thank you, Sharon Langley
