Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Green.
Jeff, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When my wife and I decided to get our first dog 26 years ago, we both agreed that we wanted to have an obedient dog. I started to group train with people that were very skilled in competition obedience.
I was in awe when I realized what a well trained dog could accomplish. The more I became involved in the competitive aspect, the more I fell in love with the sport. Through the years, my adoration for well behaved and obedient dogs propelled me into my own dog training business.
Today, all of my business comes from referrals. I no longer need to advertise. I feel very fortunate and grateful that over the years, so many people have trusted me to come into their home to help them train their dog.
I am still very involved in the competition aspect and sport.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Fortunately, the vast majority of my clients are wonderful people. As far as I am concerned, nothing is more important than building trust between myself and my clients.
It takes time to build up a clientele. However, once you can accomplish this, it is a great feeling to realize that you are helping people to perhaps save the life of their beloved dog.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Train My Dog – what should we know?
My dog training business involves me going into the home of my clients and listening and learning what their expectations are regarding the behavior of their dog.
My training does not involve any type of law enforcement or military canine training. I am strictly centered on normal obedience training.
I think the one element that sets me apart from many other dog trainers is my back round and experience in competitive dog obedience shows.
Hopefully, I am known for being able to help my clients have the type of dog that makes a great family member and not a serious liability.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think the elements that have contributed to my success, is my ability to be patient and to help my customers maintain realistic expectations. I also try and help my customers understand that anger has no place in dog training. It will accomplish nothing.
