Jason, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I spent 5 years in the Creative position at the Apple Store in Lincoln Park teaching users how to get the most out of their devices and software. As I started to master the Apple ecosystem, people frequently asked me if I could help them in their homes with their apple needs and other technology issues. A light bulb went off in my head which led me to the idea of” what if I could provide amazing service in the comfort of someone’s home. The Apple Store is a great place to learn but there’s no place like home and for some people a visit to the Apple Store for help can be overwhelming. It’s now been 2 years since I’ve left apple and I’m now providing personal tech support for more than 200 families and small business. Family photos seem to be one of the most important possessions that my clients have so I’ve added to my list of services digital archiving where I scan old photos, slides, and videos and convert them to a digital format in which families can share their catalog and view them on their smart TVs and portable devices
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road! But I like a bumpy ride and I’ve hit some roadblocks on the way. When I first started off on my own I thought that having business partners and investors would make things easier. That type of setup really just clouded my vision and didn’t work for me. If anyone was going to be responsible for my success, I wanted it to be me alone. Branding and marketing were no walk in the park either. Because this is such a niche typ business it was very hard to put into words what exactly it is that I do and why it’s such a special service. After years of logo design exploration, company name changes and copy writing I’ve gotten to a place where place where people are starting to get it. By no means am I at the top but the ball is starting to roll

I provide in home technology support focused around Apple products and other smart home devices. My Mac Nerd is best known for prompt response time, Premium support and ability to explain technology to the “not so tech savvy user.” I take the frustration out of technology and help organize ones digital life.
What makes my Mac nerd different? I was trained by the best, Apple. And spent 5 years providing support to thousands of customers. I know how to explain technology to people in a way that makes sense and is not intimidating.
I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve created a business that revolves around helping other people. My job is to eliminate frustration caused my technology and I’m able to do that while keeping others calm. My services leave my clients with a sense of accomplishment and Joy.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?

My Mac Nerd looks to add a few members to its team this year and continues to search for ways to provide great service to more people in the Chicagoland and north shore
We are helping parents have a better understanding of how their kids are using their technology.
My Mac Nerd has partnered with local Chicago schools and hosted talks to inform parents about how to monitor their kids on social media and how keep them safe from inappropriate content.
