Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly McGregor and Heidi Bernover.
Holly and Heidi, please share your story with us.
Holly: As a child, I watched each of my parents begin and grow their own businesses and I always had the passion for entrepreneurism in my blood. Throughout my childhood, I knew I would dedicate my career to helping others care for their bodies. In the beginning, I thought it would be in the medical field, which then transitioned to Nursing. After receiving my B.S. degree but before beginning nursing school, I chose to take some time to explore the corporate world. Loving a fast-paced environment and creative minds, pharmaceutical advertising was the perfect fit. Ten years later, I was successful having worked my way up to the executive management level, and loving it… for the most part. A balance was my issue and my health was taking a toll. Living in Midtown Manhattan, I discovered Bikram Yoga at Bikram Yoga NYC Midtown (now Bode). That was March 2006 and my life has never been the same. I started practicing daily and have not stopped.
Fast forward to 2012 and I have made the decision to attend Teacher Training and earn my certification in Bikram Yoga. Our local neighborhood, the North Shore of Chicago, had an abundance of so many things but lacked a Bikram Yoga studio. Native to the North Shore, my sister, Heidi Bernover, and I knew it was up to us to open Bikram Yoga North Shore (now FUEL: Mind to Body).
Heidi: The past 6 years of shown incredible growth for our community! For me, I left a position in Financial Management to really invest my time and energy in a different way for people to care for themselves. I wanted to see Bikram Yoga be accessible to the North Shore community.
Every day, students tell us how this studio has changed their lives or even saved their lives. With about 10 instructors, we have a team of educated and enthusiastic professionals FUEL: Mind to Body has expanded to offer Inferno Hot Pilates and Hot Yoga as a way to help students achieve their goals for their bodies and lives.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We face similar challenges to other small business owners, but the difference is that our product is life-changing and our clients leave here glowing. From HR to site maintenance, we do feel like “jacks (or janes) of all trades”, and we find it invigorating that no two days are alike.
FUEL: Mind to Body – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
FUEL: Mind to Body offers Bikram Yoga, Hot Yoga and Inferno Hot Pilates to the North Shore. Inferno Hot Pilates is our fastest growing class, a High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). These sessions are practiced in a room heated to 95 degrees and the exercises are based on Pilates principles. People cannot stop talking about the results they’ve achieved!
At FUEL, people come in every day to improve themselves and reach their goals. FUEL: Mind to Body is known for its strong sense of community that welcomes anyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, ability or experience. Our students love the professionalism of our team and the consistent environment they can depend on. FUEL: Mind to Body was built as a place for people to step inside, clear their minds and focus on the most important person in their lives, themselves.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is defined by the number of lives that have changed for the good as a result of our business.
