Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregory Story.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After a lifetime as a part-time maker/artist/craftsperson, I finally quit my last job. As a museum special-events coordinator to work full-time as a ceramicist, and began doing art festivals around the country as a way to show and sell my work. It has turned out to be the best decision of my life! While it is the hardest work I’ve ever done and most random career I can imagine, it has also been the most rewarding.

Has it been a smooth road?
The art fair world is one of the constant challenges! From the randomness of jury’s opinions to the whims of mother nature, there is no guarantee from one year to the next if I’ll be accepted into the shows I hope for, or if once there, we’ll be rained-out or blown away.

As Modern Clay, I specialize in decorative ceramics. I create unique Wall Sculptures and Totems. WallBalls are my best selling work. They are a sophisticated alternative to traditional framed work, a designer’s dream-solution for awkward large spaces, and they’ve become a favorite of collectors who start a grouping and add to it over the years.
